Margaret (Anders) Willis
(email) mwillis@azonline.co,
Peoria, AZ. 85345
So here goes since '64.

I moved to Phoenix after graduation and lived with K'Lyn Gardner and Jackie Driskoll. I attended Durham Business College. A year and a half later, I married Gary Willis after dating him for 3 years. We've been married 33 years. We have one daughter, Kendra Colleen (32), a grandson, Wesley Ryan, who is 10 and a granddaughter, Kodi Michele, who will be 4 in August.

We decided to buy some acreage in 1969, since we had several horses. The plan was to work a year or two to save enough money. (30 years in June 99) It turned out that we needed to fence the property, build corrals, put in water lines, storerooms, buy feed, etc, etc, (money, money, money) We are still living at the same location.

I started working for the City of Glendale in June of '69 as a "Clerk Typist" in Customer Services. December '69, I transferred into Data Processing and was promoted to a "Data Processing Operator". (ancient history, old accounting systems) '74, I promoted to a "Data Entry Operator I" (old keypunch). '75, I promoted to a "Data Entry Operator II". '77, I promoted to a" Computer Operator" (Honeywell system). '83, I promoted to a "Computer Operator II". '84, I promoted to "Lead Operator" (Data General, HP’s and IBM systems). '86, I promoted to "Computer Operations Supervisor". The title I still hold.

Recently, I've have been given the responsibilities of "Security Administrator". I manage security and allow user access to the City’s computer mainframes and fileservers, plus software such as Novell, Peoplesoft (financials, human resources & payroll database), GroupWise (email), and several Oracle database (salestax, municipal billing, call tracking, recreation). I don't at this time manage the security of the Internet or Gateways.

I guess that is about it. I haven’t made many changes in my personal life, but my professional life seems to change as technology changes which has been on the fast track from day one.

Sidney (Ashton) Garrett
(email) sidney@bcvi.com
Lawrence, KS 66046
I went to the Univ of Calif in Santa Barbara for one year but transferred to the Univ of Kansas, in Lawrence,KS because my family moved back to Kansas City after we graduated.

After graduating from KU, I married Gary Garrett in 1969 and taught high school math and English for three years in a small town about the size of Wickenburg. That cured me from ever teaching again so I went to work in the accounting field.

We lived in Lawrence, then in Kansas City and in 1974 my husband, who was a mortgage banker, was transferred to Houston, TX. We had no children and I continued to work as a bookkeeper and controller of a private investment firm. I also went back to graduate school and took the CPA exam. After I was licensed, I worked as a tax accountant until 1986.

My father had moved the family business from Kansas City to Lawrence in 1975 and in the mid-80's his health started to fail. He needed someone in the family to run the business for him and offered it to me. I had just gotten a divorce and was tired of doing tax work so I jumped at the chance and moved back to Lawrence in 1986.

The company manufactures aluminum truck bodies (just like the cargo boxes you see on Ryder rental trucks) and custom trailers for hauling race cars, mobile labs, display trailers, etc. Our web site is bcvi.com if you want to check us out.

I am fairly busy in community and University activities and spend as much time as I can on the golf course. If any of you are golfers, I would love to get up a game at the reunion. I am really looking forward to seeing everyone next summer. Sidney

P.S. Some of you asked about my family. Don is living in New York City and his son, Scott works for me as a salesman. Judy is a lawyer and lives in Boston. Stewart married a girl from Paris, France and he moved there. He has 2 French kids and works as a systems analyst (computer wiz) at an international investment bank. My mother is still living in Kansas City and doing very well.

Claudia Bachtel:
(email) spitbachtel@mail.cartwright.k12.az.us,
I decided not to go to college soon after I returned from W. Va. in the summer after my senior year. My mother, not wanting to have idle children, immediately went out and got me a job at the Frontier Market. I worked there for 1 year and then Mother, who had been talking with Dr. Vinyard (dentist) at duplicate bridge, found that he needed and was going to train a dental assistant. She deemed that as a step up and I worked there for 2 years.

By then I thought I should expand my horizons so I quit, took my savings, and went to California in search of my life's work. The money went quickly and after a fun summer I came back to Wickenburg. I knew that I didn't want to stay so going to school seemed the only alternative. At this point I began my college experience. Who knew it would last for 32 years? Wonder if I'm LD?

I started at Glendale Community and went for 2 years, then transferred to Northern Arizona University. I lasted 3 weeks and nearly starved and froze to death. Apparently, I'm a warm weather kind of girl!

When I returned to the Valley I got a job working at the Telephone Company. I was an operator. I worked at this for almost a year and in January 1969 or 70 I started my illustrious career at Arizona State University. I soon discovered that I had to declare a major and hadn't a clue what I wanted to be when I grew up! I chose education because someone said it was easy. Luckily, I really enjoyed it but it surely was dumb luck! I finished my undergraduate degree in Spring of 1972 and began teaching in an inner city school that September. I was pretty sick of going to school (I worked full time while completing my degree and commuted from Wickenburg as well) so I swore I'd never return.

That lasted about a year and then I began working on my Master's degree. I went part-time and completed that degree in 1981. Again I vowed never to return, although I really enjoy my post grad work. I specialized in reading education so I'm a certified Reading Specialist and also qualified to be a librarian. I'll bet that wow's your socks off .

March of 1984 - June 1988 I left the confines of the classroom and went into a school supply business. It was a learning and losing experience. My partner and I lost lots of $ but I learned a great deal. (I'll share that at a later time if you're interested and we see one another. Frankly I can't imagine that you would give a hoot.) In the Fall of 1988, I went back to teaching. I was fortunate enough to get a job before we even closed the doors on our business.

In 1990 I was awarded a Fulbright-Hayes to Mexico and studied throughout Mexico for the summer compliments of the taxpayers. Thanks for my trip. It was really nice of you guys to send me! I was accepted into an Administration Cadre at A.S.U. and completed that coursework in 1994. My enthusiasm for pursuing an administrative career is sometimes lacking. I'm not much of a political animal. I'm not interested in being a principal unless I can do it well and I think the political aspect is important. As I near retirement I think about it more because of the wage and the effect that would have on my retirement income. So who knows!! I love the classroom and I think we need more people who like what they're doing in the trenches so to speak. I guess I'm torn at this point because I think I would make a good leader. I've been studying Spanish for a couple of years and can now make myself understood. I was pretty proud of that and then just the other day I got a student from Kosovo. Anyone fluent in Albanian? If so, I could use your help!

I have successfully written several grants and am currently working on one that involves student achievement and community involvement. SRP awards several each year with monies up to $5000. Our school could really use it! I also teach undergraduate methods courses for Ottawa University. I really enjoy that! The students are mostly postbacks...rarin' to save the world. It's really fun!

On the personal side...I've never married...don't know whether I'm a reject or just too particular! I, have, however, due to my great job had approximately 750 kids. My siblings are all over the United States. For those of you that knew them....Chic is still in Texas fixing peoples teeth...Po is retired and living in a small town in Oklahoma....Rick got a degree in Drug Counseling and lives in Northwestern N.Y. and counsels drug addicts .... George's home base is in the Houston, Texas and is currently working "out of the country". My Dad died in 1973....he had a stroke in a teacher's meeting...and Mother died in February of this year.

Took longer than 13 minutes....You should be sufficiently bored by now!

Claudia,

Billy Baker
Email: luckh@proaxis.com (or) bakerb@proaxis.com
Lebanon, OR. 97355
After Graduation in 64, I went to work at the Wickenburg Sun. In Oct. of 1965 I was drafted into the Army and spent the next three months in Fort Polk, LA. . I didn't make the grade for the Army and was given an administrative discharge.

Returned to the Wickenburg Sun till 1966 or 67, then went to work at the Circle K Market in Wickenburg for the next seven years as Asst. Mgr.. It was in 1968 that I married Annette Clawson (daughter of the Asst., Chief of Police of Wickenburg) Then worked two years at The Store in Wickenburg (no longer in business).

1969 I was blessed with the birth of my daughter Holly, then 1971 I was blessed again with the birth of my son Billy, Jr.

1975 was a lean year and I became a Tupperware salesman till I was offered the Asst. Manager position at a Circle K Market in Prescott. We made the move, the job only lasted about 6 months. But I bounced back the next month, and got a job working for Airborne Navigation making navigational flight instruments. (doing every thing from making circuit boards, silkscreening, painting and fabricating the instrument boxes).

In 1978 I suffered a seizure and was in the VA hospital in Prescott and in Phoenix for 3 months trying to find the cause. After finally sending me to the University Hospital in Tucson, they found that I had Muscular Dystrophy. That lead to my disability and the end of my working career.

During the next 9 years I became a 4-H leader as my children grew and participated. Annette worked for TG&Y in Prescott. We lived both in Chino Valley and Prescott over that 10 year period. After spending two vacations in Oregon and liking the climate and cool weather, we moved here to Lebanon on July 5, 1987. Annette went to work in a cannery and the children finished there High School through correspondence. They then went to work at the same cannery.

Holly married in 1996, and has two young boys. There picture are on my webpage. Billy, Jr., married in May 1999. Over the course of time Annette and I divorced in 1992. We are still good friends, she is living with me right now till she gets financially fixed again. I spend my time on the computer doing webpages for my friends or chatting with my email friends, I take color pencil art classes and different computer classes through the local community college. Any other questions just ask.

See, I told you more than you probably wanted to hear.

Jim Crayne
(email) jbcray@aol.com,
Henderson, NV 89015
Jim Crayne’s bio (by Alex Wold. Note: some liberties were taken in this, but if Jim had drafted his own bio, it wouldn’t have come to this):

After graduation from high school, Jim moved to Gabon, Africa, with his family. His dad, you will remember, worked in the sanitation department in Wickenburg. I’m not sure what he did in Gabon. After a year, Africa tired of him and deported him back to America. Because the draft was hot on his tail, he signed up for college, Grand Canyon College (or Phoenix College) I think. Because of Jim’s superior study habits and biting intellect, that didn’t last long so he was drafted/enlisted (I forget which) in the Army. Quickly noticing Jim’s electronic aptitude and communication skills, they made him a infantryman. He went to Vietnam in 1967 as I recall and served I don’t know where with I don’t know who. Because of his superhuman rifle marksmanship, he was made an M79 grenadier. The M79 grenade launcher is to a shotgun what a sledge hammer is to a scalpel. Conclusively proving that even small targets eventually get hit if you moon them enough, he was wounded and made his way back to Ft. Carson, CO.

Somewhere in there he married Loretta (I don’t remember her maiden name but a Wickenburg local) and had a kid or two (or more). I saw them after the birth of their first, I think, on my way through Colorado in 1969. Jim’s Mom and Dad had moved back to Wickenburg/Bagdad by this time. As I recall his father died in the middle 1970’s, and his Mom died in the middle 1980’s or so, both pretty young (relatively speaking). Jim’s younger brother Pete retired from the Navy and lives in the Midwest somewhere.

By 1974, Jim and Loretta were out of the Army and living in Circle City/Wittman area. Not long after that they divorced. Jim then worked in Bagdad. After searching and auditioning endlessly, he met and married Trish (I don’t remember her maiden name either, but she was a Kingman local) and had a few more young’uns, I forget how many. After Bagdad, they moved to Henderson, NV, where Jim continued working in the electronics/electrical field as he had at Bagdad. Sometime after that (mid to late 1980’s?) Jim and his family moved to the San Bernardino, CA, area where Jim continued to work in the electronics field. He would travel to various places to repair equipment. Jim was always known as a great worker and an inspiration to his co-workers. They would often comment on how much harder they had to work when he was around.

Because of a workers compensation injury, the fact that unlike the rest of us, he is not getting any younger, and that his Mom and Pop died relatively young of heart problems which they obligingly passed on to him, he has been retired since 1998 living in Boulevard, CA, a wide spot in the road in the mountains east of San Diego. He has kids still in school, a couple I think, and a luxury yacht moored in Marina del Rey (near LAX). This sailboat absorbs all of his attention (and most of his money). He has almost got it to where it floats again. The boat sleeps 8 as long as no one minds sleeping on the deck or hanging by their ankles from the mast. He tried raising pigs for a brief period in 1998, but he never could potty train any of them so he gave up. He and Trish went to the 1995 WHS reunion.

All in all, Jim is doing ok. He hopes to re-enter the work force and become a productive member of society again as soon as he has to.

Sharon (Crissman) Rubash
I was born in Pennsylvania and moved to Arizona my sophomore year of high school. I went to Wickenburg High with the class of 64 for almost three years and then dropped out on February 13, which just so happened to be Friday the 13, what a bad choice that was. I decided I missed my friends too much and went back to school and graduated with the class of 65. So I have 2 class reunions to attend.

I married Bobby Rubash on February 26, 1965. We will be celebrating our 35th wedding anniversary soon! We have 3 wonderful children, Arthur, 33, Ed, 29, who both live in Wickenburg, and Alisa, 32, who lives in Gilbert. We have 7 grandchildren and 1 on the way, 5 girls and soon to be 3 boys. They are a true blessing to us. We love being parents and Pap Pap and Nana. Out of our grandchildren we have a grandson named after his grand-dad, Bobby, and a set of twin girls. They all really keep us on our toes!

I attended beauty school in 1971. Bobby's mom, Babe, helped with the kids while I went to school. It was a long hall but very rewarding. In the 28 years I have been doing hair I have owned and sold 2 beauty shops and I am on my 3rd and final shop. I have one gal, Linda, currently working with me. She was a true blessing to me. She is a great worker and a great friend to be with all day.

During my busy schedule with hubby, family, and job, I was told that I had a cancerous tumor in my stomach. Needless to say, I was scared half to death. Bobby and I decided I needed to go where the "BIG BOYS" are, the Mayo Clinic in Scottsdale. Well they saved my life! I had surgery and came out with no stomach, a shorter esophagus, and a shorter intestine. After a rough year of figuring out what I could and couldn't eat, and being very determined, I have fully recovered. I went back to work only 3 weeks after surgery! I look back at pictures of me and I wonder how I survived. I was so thin due to not being able to eat all that much. Now I can eat whatever and whenever I want and I am back to normal weight. My wonderful husband, children, friends, and lots of prayers, and of course God, and Him alone, our prayers were fulfilled. The doctors at the Mayo Clinic were so impressed with my attitude and recovery that one of them asked me if he could write about my story in the new book he was writing. Of course I said yes, but I have yet to see the book.

Bobby and I took a cruise in February of this year to Mexico. It was for 10 days and we went with some friends from Prescott. We had so much fun! I cried when we got off the ship. Bobby asked me why I was crying and I said, "4 years ago I thought I was going to die and never be able to go on a cruise, my life long dream, or do any of the other things I want to do that is why!" He just said, "You silly girl, we have lots of time to do everything we ever wanted to do." So guess what, we are going on another cruise on February 5, 2000, provided, that is, we all survive the dreaded Y2K!!!!! Ha Ha Ha.

I can end my autobiography by saying I am truly blessed with my life. Thank you Bobby for such a great life and family.

Carolyn (Davis) Jerauld
(email) jerauld1@juno.com
Don (brother) was special forces, rangers too in Vietnam. 1968-1970. (want to see a couple of pictures...perhaps you would recognize a background) There were 3 guys on a recon. They uncovered the biggest cashe of arms in the history of the war (or so the letter says). First guy was hit by a machine gun and dropped, then Don was hit and the third guy ran and lived to tell about it. He found me in '93 as we were in the same state and only a couple of hours apart. I literally dropped out of society for about 10+ years after Don was killed, kind a dropped back in about 1980-81-82-84? 1964 moved to Phoenix and was an telephone info operator with Marilyn for a while. Married 65-70 to Joe Karowski, guy I met in Scottsdale who was playing neighborhood football and I went out to ask if I could play too. Divorced in 1970, one boy, born 1966, who works construction in Calif. now.

In the 70s I wouldn't read a newspaper, watch the news, etc. Moved a lot and worked here and there, traveled about half the states. Didn't know how to grieve for Don. Just wanted to run and hide from the pain.

In 76 moved back to Wickenburg and felt ready to get started on living again. I called Al Baum and asked him to put me to work. He made me the bartender at Remuda Ranch. From there, I met the secretary that worked for Jim Corbet (one of two attorneys) in w-burg. She wanted to quit. A year and a half later I was in Phoenix working for a big firm. I was a work-a-holic and in demand for my 130 min typing skills and the hours I would put in for monthly wage.

Moved back to Wickenburg and worked another 4 years for Jim Corbet. I got restless again...moved to Jackson Hole, Wyo for a summer (secretary on a dude ranch), back to Wickenburg and went into real estate for a year. Moved to Calif. and worked as a secretary in Silicone Valley. That lasted for about a year and then moved with my son to Utah. Worked for a one man legal aid office (no brainer job).

Mother came down with cancer and died in 82. Went back to Utah in 83 and started college. One year later, married, he joined the army and I stayed in Wickenburg. Sam (daughter) born 1985. In 85-89, Fort. Bragg area, In 89-91 Germany, In 91 divorced.

In 91-94, SUU, college in Cedar City, Ut. Education, early childhood dev and psyc. I can teach in two states now and no desire to teach in a public or private school at all. In 94 moved to Alaska and now I am awaiting a business license. Then I will be getting my dream job off the ground of having my own preschool. In 94 remarried same guy and now we are separated. He flew up two weeks after we drove up. He is a major drinker.

I was at a party with Richard Chrzanowski in my late twenties and we started playing trivia and I had not a clue to any of the answers. I had missed out on a lot after 1970. I knew nothing about politics, government, movies, actors, etc., Anything! Except how to type, draft petitions (did most of the work in a couple of offices, personal injuries, probates and divorces) and drink or smoke a joint. Really dropped back in, when my daughter was born and moved to Ft. Bragg and Germany. I don't drink now, smoke or pick up joints. Don't have much desire to go back to Wickenburg anymore. Jim Corbet's mom died (my best friend). Not only what is or not in Wickenburg, but I have traveled so much that sitting in one spot for long periods of time or climbing over people to get out does not appeal to me anymore. Fairbanks is relatively small and I am comfortable here. There is a high demand for preschools and it is the age I am attracted to work with. So, looks like I have finally put down some roots. Feels like home here. So very nice as long as one remembers to plug in the car, warm it up and dress for it. Sam complains about the winters, but said the other day that she would like to at least do a year of college here. She is only 14 and so much can change by the time she graduates from high school. She would much rather socialize than do her homework.

Thanks for the memories..........see ya in cyberspace

Denese Dollar (Ridgeway)
After months of constant pleading from my very dear friend, Margaret Willis (Anders) here is my bio. As most of you know, I married Clifford Pollay in 1964. We had 3 wonderful sons. They gave us 5 grandchildren. We divorced after approximately 14 years of marriage. I moved to Phoenix, where I purchased a lounge and restaurant. I married my bartender. (the worst mistake I ever made) I was in that abusive relationship for 7 years. I was single for years and am now happily married to a wonderful man. I am retired from bartending, (I, like Laurie Miller, prefer not working) and enjoy staying at home.

It's been wonderful reading all the bio's. I am very anxious to see everyone again at our reunion in 2000.

I would like to say at this time, that I too am so sorry for any pain that I might have cause anyone in our class. Why is it as young people, we look down on someone we think is different? Thank God, we are all different. So much for me. I hope to see you all in the near future.

Gail Grubbs
(email): chechogi@aol.com
After high school a bunch of us went to ASC now NAU for 1964-65. It was like a fifth year of high school. Don Hollingshead and I were room mates, John Hodgson and Scott Vukovich lived down the hall in the same dorm. I think Pat Algert attended that year as well. We had a lot of fun. After that I had to go to work.

I transfered to ASU, got married, started raising a family, and somehow managed to keep going to school. In 1969 I earned my B.A. in Anthropology (I was in the grip of the archetypes, what can I say). I had been working for both the Anthro Dept. and the Heard Museum. I stayed at the Heard until 1970. I loved that job, but starvation offers little future.

I had picked up a teaching certificate and got on at Phoenix Indian High School. I really enjoyed that and thought I had found my niche. President Nixon thought otherwise and my position was cut from the budget. I have found in life that the only thing worse than having a job, is not having a job.

I answered an ad in the Arizona Republic and became, to my unending surprise, a Juvenile Probation Officer. I earned my M.A. in Counseling in 1973, from ASU. After a few years I made the jump to the private sector where I became involved in the administration of a number of programs that dealt with drug abuse treatment, residential treatment, and finally outpatient counseling.

For a time in the mid 70"s I had returned my residence and family to Wickenburg. The commuting ruined me and two automobiles. I have never lived more than ten minutes from work since then.

In 1980 I lost a big political battle and the major amount of funding for the counseling center. I also got divorced. When it was all over I packed my belongings, that were left, on the back of my motorcycle and drifted.

Eventually I had to get a real job again. I went to work for the Az. Dept. of Corrections as the supervisor of a Community Treatment Center. It was the darkest pit the Juvenile Division had to offer. In its 16 year history, no one had ever been a supervisor longer than a calendar year. There had been recent rioting and some deaths. No one who worked in the dept. wanted the job so I was hired from the street. I was there 3 years. For all its difficulty It was the watershed of my life. I saw evil on a daily basis that was so tangible it could not be denied. In the midst of this darkness was an elderly Christian lady named Dorothy who was our cook. The light and goodness of this wonderful person could not be denied either. Dorothy never spoke much of her religion she simply lived it with dignity and power. It was a transforming experience for many of us. After being worn down to an agnostic nub and less, I finally realized that God had been with me all along. When I learned to count the things in my life that I cursed, as blessings, my whole world changed. Southern House continued to be a rough place but there were no more riots or killings and a great number of young men were able to make some remarkable changes. Things went well enough that after a time, I returned to the private sector once again to run a treatment center.

About the time I had been left behind for dead on the scrap heap of life, just before I went to work with DOC, I met Gaye. God works in strange ways. If I hadn't been ruined I might have never found her. She is the greatest treasure of my life. We were married in 1983. We raised her kids all the time, and mine every other week end. All four of them have turned out very well and I am proud of each individual. Sharlotte and Eric, from my previous marriage, both live and work in Phoenix. They are very close to their mother who lives in Wickenburg to this day. Emerson is in the airforce and has been all over the world. Tamara, a remarkable young lady who happens to have autism, continues to live with us.

After two succesful years of operation the bureaucrats did it again. A million dollars worth of funding dried up over night. I got the opportunity to go back to work for others once again. Twenty years in Phoenix was enough. Gaye, who is a truly adventurous spirit, threw in with me. We sold off everything and went to the Navajo Reservation to live and work for the next ten years. It was truly a great adventure and the origin of the handle, "chechogi." We worked as educators.

Gaye has a true gift with special kids who are challenged. It has been a privilege to watch her work and be her friend and colleague. I have remained a counselor. I get carried off into administration once in a while, but I always come back to the kids, and their families, and helping them with some of the bumps in life. We left the Res. in '95 and went to Oregon. The last of my parents, my step father Charlie, was ailing and had come down with Alzheimers. We went back to Arizona for a couple of years to see that situation through to its conclusion. We lived in Yuma where I got to hang out with my son, Eric, on a regular basis. I love the Southwest, but the Oregon retirement plan beckoned. When we can afford it, we'll probably return to the Res. In the meantime we visit Arizona when ever we can. I'm still healthy and active. I took up golf with Eric and now have the habit. I work as a counselor in a middle school. I am blissfully insane.

After WHS, I went to NAU for a year, got drafted by the Marines when I lost my student deferment but decided to join the Army. Spent the next four years in the Army Security Agency (military branch of the NSA). Spent a year in South East Asia, and the next two years in Germany and Italy.

Came home, moved to Phoenix in 1969, got married in 1973, wound up with three sons, was a single parent from 1988 until 1995 when I remarried. Boys are all grown and off doing their thing. Very quite around the house now!

We have three grandchildren, twin boys five years old and a new baby girl born April 24. All the grand kids live in Chicago so we don't see them as much as we'd like too.

Guess that's about it - I've never been much of a talker! No report yet.

I don't know that it is all that interesting but here goes. After graduating from high school I went to NAU for a year. Toward the end of second semester I re-injured my knee and needed to go home for treatment. My parents had moved to Phoenix. I spent that summer and fall on crutches and undergoing treatments. In 1965, I began working for an insurance company near Park Central - supposedly just until second semester began!

Plans ($) for school did not materialize and I went to work for the telephone company on Central & McDowell in Phx. Working in the Coin Center was interesting for a time as there were only three in the western US. In 1968, I bought a car (1960 VW), took some night classes at Glendale Comm. College and got married. We stayed in Phoenix for a year while my husband finished at ASU. At that time (1969) there were not any secondary teaching positions available in biology so he applied and received a job teaching in Lyle, Washington.

We arrived in Lyle - never having seen it and being told very little about it! What a shock!! I had imagined tall pines etc. Lyle was in the middle of the state right on the Columbia River so it had scrub oak-type vegetation. The town reported a population of 327 people and was composed of three gas stations, a post office, a tavern and a mercantile! We stayed two years. I worked for the Diamond Fruit Co. and the community hospital during that time.

In 1971, we returned to AZ and Paul took a job at Amphitheater High School in Tucson. Our oldest son was born in 1972, and we decided I would stay home with him. In 1977, we adopted a darling little boy to go with the one we had. In 1979, our daughter was born. During the years I stayed at home I did child care and consignment sewing for a lady who sold to Nieman Marcus.

In 1981, we moved to Nogales when my husband became an assistant principal and athletic director. I loved it there. I enjoyed the mixed cultures and we lived in a beautiful, tranquil spot. In 1983, we moved to Prescott and I really enjoyed it. We both have family in the area and, since I do not tolerate the heat well, I loved the snow and winters there. I went to work for the school system. I spent 3-4 years as counselor's secretary at Granite Mtn. Jr. High and then moved to the district office to be secretary to the Director of Student Services. Our children were all active in sports and other activities so they were busy years. I am active in my church wherever we live and usually teach pre-schoolers or children groups.

In 1990 we moved to Goodyear when my husband became principal of a high school in the Tolleson District. I worked for the Agua Fria School District as assistant principal's secretary and then at the district office in personnel.

In 1992, we moved to Monte Vista, Colorado. The elevation was almost 8,000 ft. and it is in a valley in the middle of the Rockies. As you can imagine, I loved it - winters and all. We bought a house 100 years old and began restoring it. I scrapped 12 layers of paint off baseboards and crown molding to reveal gorgeous oak underneath. It took three years to complete and I loved it. I was secretary to the general manager of an electrical utility. The job was great. It paid well and I did some traveling on the job. My husband was principal of the high school. At the end of 4 years we returned to AZ to lock in my husband's retirement with the AZ system. I came back very reluctantly.

Paul has been superintendent at Santa Cruz Valley District in Eloy for 3 yrs. He is retiring at the end of the month to pursue other interests. We have purchased a number of lots in the AZ City area and he plans to develop them. There is a great need for housing here. We plan to give this project a few years and then decide where we would like to live. I am hoping for seasons, trees, and cold weather!! I have not particularly enjoyed this area. It is about halfway between Phx. and Tucson so all the larger cities have to offer is available to us. However, it is hotter than blazes here!

During our time in the area I have been secretary to the chief of police in Eloy, worked for a lead manufacturing company and am now at Central AZ College in the Continuing Ed Dept. We have no idea where we will finally decide to settle but I am counting on it not being in the desert!

Our oldest son is married, is a juvenile detention officer, and lives in Prescott. Our second son is working for Safeway and lives in Monte Vista. Our daughter is working here in Casa Grande and still lives at home. That is it.

Laurie (Miller) Pierce
(email) wxpierc@uswest.com
Edgewood, NM. 87015
After graduation, and I mean RIGHT after graduation, my mother decided that Wickenburg was morally corrupt and totally without character and moved us to Arkansas (of all places! And, no, I don’t know ‘Bill’.) Since I didn’t agree with my mother, ever, about anything, I left Arkansas shortly before my 18th birthday and returned. I rented a little one-room apartment (with the bathroom & shower out in the hall) from Clifford and Denise Pollay and worked at the hospital, at Los Cab, and at the Golden Nugget. Late in ‘65 I married Gary Garcia and we had our first child, Kim (and not necessarily in that order, for those of you who were going to bring it up!).

We moved to Yuma, where Gary was working, and I became a stay-at-home Mom. Compared to what was coming, not at all a bad job.

Mid-’67 we moved from Yuma to Phoenix and after a couple of months I decided to go job hunting. We had a small apartment in central Phoenix and only one car......what can I say?......I wanted ‘a home’, and 2 cars, and to take exciting vacations every year, etc., etc., etc. We’ve been dubbed the ‘me generation’ and that was the beginning of it for me. I submitted applications all over town and the first one to call me in for an interview, became a 28 year career with US West (then, Mountain States Tel & Tel).

I started as a compilation clerk in the White Pages Unit of the Directory Dept. I remember sitting in the waiting room of the Company doctor’s office downtown, waiting to take my physical, listening to two women talking behind the desk...they were asking each other how much time they had in with the company and one replied that this was her 9th year and I thought ‘Wow, that’s a long time...I’d never stay in one job that long’. HA! How naive I was!!

In 1972 my second child, Alan, was born and in 1974 Gary and I divorced. Now I was a ‘single parent’ with two children. That was a little frightening at times, but frankly I was more comfortable relying on myself and being in control of my life than.....any of the alternatives!

From White Pages I moved to (naturally) the Yellow Pages, to management, to Denver, to Staff, to Training, to Systems, back to Phoenix, back to Denver, and around and around I went. I can honestly say that 20 or so of the 28 years I invested there were very good years. I loved my jobs; I enjoyed and learned much from my experiences; the people, for the most part, were very good people and very good friends. But somewhere in those last few years with ‘Ma Bell’ either my veil of naivety dissolved and I began to see the ugliness of Corporate America, or things began changing very quickly and got all ‘sideways’ practically overnight. We went from an environment of respect and caring to never-ending revenue increase demands, inflated budgets, flamboyant ‘conferences’, head-count reductions, endless ‘business trips’ taken primarily for the purpose of inflating one’s own personal frequent flyer miles, and politics, politics, politics. Very little business, just politics.

Then I hated going to work. I’d start getting depressed on Sunday mornings, contemplating Mondays. I completely understood the postal worker mentality. In 1990, the Company offered a 5 + 5 retirement incentive, a hell of a good deal for those who were eligible. I had the number of service years I needed, but I was 2 years too young. I was in the Phoenix office at the time and 9 (count them, 9!) of my good friends left........ and I had to stay. AHHHHHHHH!!! By then, I had too much time invested in my retirement to just quit, so I gutted it out until 1996 when they offered another early retirement package, which I WAS eligible for. On October 6, 1996 it was Emancipation Proclamation time....the freeing of the slaves......a rebirth.....life. Hooray!

In 1990 I married again. Wayne is my ‘soul-mate and my best friend’.....old cliches, but true. There will be no more divorces in my bio. However, I do wonder from time to time if it is natural and healthy for one man and one woman to live together.....forever...(?)

In 1991 I was diagnosed with breast cancer. And it scared the ‘pee-waddins’ out me. The word ‘cancer’ sucks.....and ‘malignancy’...that’s a real good one too! For the first couple of weeks, those two words just kept popping into my mind randomly and I’d think about dying and ‘the meaning of life’ and all that melodramatic stuff. Fortunately, I had good doctors and once all the medical events began happening, it got less melodramatic and more real....more a matter of science and technology....and beatable!! They tell you that once you’ve passed a 5-year milestone your chances of longevity are pretty good. I was a teeny bit ‘concerned’ during that 5-year period, but I’m still here and I don’t plan on going anywhere real soon.

My goal is for us to live to about 105 and spend every cent of our retirement and Social Security income on a small yacht anchored off the Cozumel shoreline. Sorry kids!

Well, in conclusion, my husband and I are now living in New Mexico, outside of Albuquerque. Like Dinel, I’d rather be in Colorado, being a ski-bum and drinking hot buttered rum, but my husband loves it here and we’ve put a lot of sweat-equity into our home and property, so I guess we’re staying. For now at least. Kim has given me two grand-daughters, Alan has one daughter, and I’m discovering that it’s MUCH more fun being a grandmother than a mother. I think I’ve pretty much recovered from my abuse by USW and I’m not adverse to returning to the work force for a few years, but it’s going to have to be ‘the perfect job’.....I’m not wasting one more minute of very precious time doing anything that I don’t absolutely love. I’ve been thinking maybe Continental Airlines, so we can fly free anytime we want to!!

I can’t wait to see you all and catch up on how all of you have weathered your lives. I hope you will all plan on attending the 2000 reunion....it will be good for your souls!!!

JoAnn (Olea) Baxter:
(email) lee495@prodigy.net
Well, it has been a very long time. I prefer to be referred to as Joani as Joann reminds me of the past which I’d like to leave there. I think that I left Wickenburg the summer of the beginning of sophomore year because Rancho High School in Las Vegas only had three grades, sophomore, junior and senior. Anyway, graduated from school. Was working as a telephone operator for the telephone company in Las Vegas before I graduated so went to full time. Later went to work for EG&G a government contractor. Later UCLA Livermore Radiation Laboratories (government contractor). Reynolds Electrical Engineering (government contractor). I spent some time at the Nevada Test Site being administrative assistant to the test director.
Later I spent six months with Gary and Margaret Willis and got involved in the medical field, as if it weren’t meant to be with all the time I spent around them as a child. Anyway, I ended up learning medical transcription and to date that is what I am doing, working for the Mayo Clinic Scottsdale. They are few and far between and a demand like secretaries were years ago.
For the fun stuff I got involved in horses as that is my heritage with my folks and grandfolks being in the cattle and horse business. I barrel raced locally in Las Vegas and professionally in the states of Arizona, California, Utah and New Mexico. When I turned 40 I felt that my priorities changed and I wasn’t as young as I used to be and if I expected this body to take care of me for the rest of my life I better be good to it. I also like to play golf. For the past year I have gotten interested in the stock market and enjoy that, not day trading yet!
I also spent time in Mountaineer, New Mexico. Was the biggest culture shock of my life. Eventually moved to Belen, New Mexico, and worked in Albuquerque for four oncologists/hematologists.
While in Las Vegas I owned and operated my own transcription business but couldn’t find any quality transcriptionist and I was working most of my time and knew that I wasn’t going to last and it would be better to be working for someone else. So, I sold that business.
I’ve been in Phoenix for the last five years working for Mayo. This is a big group and changes are happening. I have no children. Have been married and divorced. Margaret and I have kept in contact over the years, I should say I’ve kept in contact with her. Sometimes people’s fingers don’t work on the telephone! I don’t know about that reunion bit! Maybe I need to keep reading “In The Meantime” by VanZant or some Og Mandino books.

I went to the U. of A. after graduation and got my B.A. in Elementary Education. The summer after graduation I flew to Hawaii and married Don, who was on R. and R. from Da Nang, Vietnam.
I came back to Arizona and got my first job teaching 2nd grade in the Alhambra District in Phoenix. During the next few years I earned an M.A. in Elem. Ed. at A.S.U.
I taught for 7 years and then had our first son, Tim. Matt was born 2 years later. I was able to stay home with them until Matt entered kindergarten.
I started back to work in the Washington School District and have worked there ever since.
I divorced Don after 21 years of marriage and kept busy raising the boys for the next ten years. We were active in Boy Scouts, hiking and church .
Both boys are on their own now and I have a wonderful grandson named Joey. He just turned one.
I started dating after the boys were gone and met Bill at church. After two years of getting to know each other we decided we would get married so June 26, 1999 we had a family wedding at my sister Candy's house. Bill is an A.S.U. graduate and is a building contractor.
My parents still live in Wickenburg so we visit frequently. Candy lives in Cave Creek and has two boys and Marcia lives in San Antonio and has two boys.
My life has been full of ups and down, but through it all God has been faithful to give us the strength to get through each day. I'm looking forward to seeing everyone at the reunion.

Alex (Odd) Wold
(email) Aawpc@aol.com
Here is a short biography of what has happened to me since '64.Education: U. of Arizona 64-65

U. of Washington 65-69 (BSF in Forestry, BA in Latin-American Studies)

U. of Washington 74-77 (J.D. Law) Employment
summers of 64, 65 Recreation assistant, Wickenburg town park.
summers of 66, 67 Cruising timber, Forest Service, Yakima Washington
summers of 68, 74-77 Smokejumper, Forest Service, Cave Junction, Oregon. My father-in-law could understand jumping out of airplanes when the plane is on fire and the ground is safe, but the other way around?
US Army active duty: 69-74 (infantry, ranger, airborne, Special Forces; Ft. Benning Georgia, Germany, Vietnam, Ft. Bragg, North Carolina.) I came in second in the Southeast Asian War Games.
Reserves: 78-97. (Special Forces, training battalion, school unit) Retired a lieutenant colonel in 96.
Law: Lane County Oregon District Attorney (assistant) 77-81. Dwyer, Simpson and Wold, Eugene, Oregon, 81-90. Wold & Hart, Albuquerque, NM 90-present.
Licensed in New Mexico, Arizona, California, and Oregon (inactive). I can presently commit malpractice in 3 different states!
I do tort law for plaintiffs. That is, I represent injured persons in all kinds of matters like auto accidents, slip and falls, medical malpractice, etc.Social
I changed my name in 1974 from "Odd Alexander Wold, Jr." to "Alexander Aud Wold, Jr." I thought it would be too difficult having to constantly explain my name. Besides, I had already heard all the jokes about it. When I changed the spelling of "Odd" I didn't realize that "Aud" is also a Viking name. "Odd" means the point of the spear. "Aud" means child of the night. I just thought I would completely eliminate the problem. 'Course my dad couldn't understand what problem I was talking about. I still respond to "Odd" from my old friends.
Married to Suzanne Tessaro 69-76. One child, Rebecca, who is a lawyer in Tacoma, Washington, and works as a clerk for a justice at the Court of Appeals. Has one daughter born last December. Figures, I had 3 sisters, no brothers, 3 daughters, no sons, now I have my first grandchild, a girl. I guess I was meant to be surrounded by women.
Married to Rosemary Shaw 79-present. Two children, Kirsten (17) and Alexis (15). Rosemary is a dietician. I have, with her help, been able to boil down all the dietary rules over the years to one sentence--if it tastes good, spit it out.
We have lived in Albuquerque since 90. Albuquerque is like Phoenix in the '50's without the heat. Nothing but sunshine. People here are very friendly, and those pesky bolo ties are not as common as in Arizona (neither are the cowboy boots, cowboy hats, thong sandals).
I enjoy outdoor activities. I am still very active physically. 3 years ago I did the Mt.. Taylor quadrathlon which involves biking, running, snowshoeing, and skiing to the top of Mt. Taylor and back from Grants NM (5,000 feet up and 27 miles one way) and came within an eyelash of breaking the record--doubled. Oh well, I finished at least
